High School Road Trip!

I have never, in all of my 2 ish years in full time ministry seen a road trip quite like this one!  The line-up reads like an all-star starting five of epic proportions:

TEXAS STATE FAIR (Pat Benetar is Headlining)

Medieval Times

In-N-Out Burger

Whirly Ball

Broom Ball

You would be crazy not to jump all over this trip!  So high school student, grab a couple of your friends and get signed up for this bad boy!  We pull out at 2pm (due to CISD early release) on Friday and we’ll be back before dinner on Sunday.  Click on the picture for more info and for REGISTRATION.

See you in Dallas!

The Red Letters

Jesus’ words are so important in the Bible that some versions print them in red ink – a way to set them apart, to draw our eyes and our hearts towards them.  Sometimes, Jesus’ words are not RED enough in our lives.  The Red Letters is a fall SHIFT series that studies Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus’ longest recorded dialogue in the Bible.  From September until Christmas, SHIFT is studying, verse by verse, what Jesus has to say – and in the process, hopefully, we’ll be transformed from people who read the red letters to people who live the red letters.

Come be a part of what’s going on at SHIFT!  Worship, Word and Community every Wednesday night at 8pm (doors open at 7) at The Loft Student Center.  9201 Grogan’s Mill Rd 77380 (Grogan’s Mill at Lake Front Cir)

40: Fasting and Feasting During Lent

Lent is the 40 (actually 46) days leading up to Easter Sunday – when our savior conquers death and sin forever.  What a day of celebration for followers of Jesus – the resurrection of our King, and the victory over death.  Until that day comes, our community will be observing Lent.  Lent is a time that we fast to remember.  We remember the 40 years that Moses wandered with the Israelites in the desert, we remember the 40 days that Jesus spent alone in the desert and we remember that God is our provision during tough times.  Lent is usually observed by fasting – giving up something that you enjoy.  Some give up coffee, or chocolate or facebook, or shopping or whatever.  Fasting is a big part of the whole following Jesus thing.  But so is feasting.  Lent makes no sense if it is not followed by the celebration of Easter Sunday.

40 is our current Shift series that explores the elements of Fasting and Feasting during lent and Holy week.  It started on Ash Wednesday and it will continue through into Holy week.

Here’s the fun part – in the middle of the series, we get to stop talking about Jesus and actually live it out!  REACH weekend is right in the middle of Lent, so we’re going to live out the Freedom of both the fast and the feast together!  Make sure to sign up for REACH weekend on April 8 – 10.  [ more info at www.rebelbaseonline.com ]

So come walk through this lent season with Shift!  We meet every Wednesday at 8 [doors open at 7].  So if you’re in high school or maybe even college, come worship with us through fasting and through feasting!

REACH WEEKEND

REACH WEEKEND is the biggest event on the high school calendar this spring, and there are 3 BIG things on our agenda:

Worship.

Friday night we’ll kick things off with 100% worship.  There will be plenty of fresh worship elements – things you have experienced before, and maybe some brand new ways to respond to God’s glory and redemptive acts.  We are going to try to do everything we can to create an atmosphere for the Holy Spirit to move in powerful ways.

Serve.

We are going to serve our community all day on Saturday.  Groups will be sent out all over the community to love and to serve.  Teams could be working on projects like building a wheelchair ramp, repainting a house, working in a food bank, playing with inner city kids at a day camp, or any number of REACH projects.  The point, however, is to serve selflessly.

Party.

After a long day of service, we are going to throw a huge party here at the loft.  Seriously, the Saturday night party will be a BLOW OUT.  Expect your favorites, like a late night Hooray For Love concert – but we got some good surprises for this one, too.

High school students who register will be placed in small groups of about 8 – 12 other students of same grade and gender.  Each group will have 1 – 2 college volunteer leaders, and will stay in a host home – provided by generous members of TWUMC. [If your family is interested in letting a group of students stay in your home for the weekend please call 281-297-5940] That small group will be your nucleus for REACH – you will worship, serve and party with them all weekend long.

High School Student:  do not miss out on REACH WEEKEND.

This is SHIFT

Shift-a-saurs, welcome to 2011 and a new semester of your favorite senior high/young adult Bible study community that meets from 8pm – 9:15(ish) on Wednesday nights at the loft.

We are starting twenty eleven with a series called This is Shift.  We’ll spend 4 weeks or so looking at why we do the things we do.  It’ll be a great series for the 4 year veterans and for the first-timers alike.

The series kicks off on January 19 with FREE ALL YOU CAN EAT PANCAKES (served from 7p-8p) flipped and served by the Youth Construction Counsel – the folks who bring you UM ARMY.  After pancakes, we’ll worship and ask the question, “Why do we serve?”

The series, This is Shift will explore -

why we serve

why we worship

why we community
